Saw this in the local paper today. I didn't know the second item, about the airconditioning being different.
- The gas engines shut down when the vehicle stops to conserve fuel and restart when the driver's foot leaves the brake.
- They use electric instead of gas engine-driven air conditioning compressors to save fuel and maintain cooling when the engine shuts off at traffic lights.
- The feel of the brakes is like driving into a deep puddle of water. That's because activating the brakes also engages an electric generator in which magnets provide resistance when the brake pedal is depressed or the vehicle coasts.
- The nickel-metal hydride battery packs and their cooling systems steal space from the trunks of hybrid cars. The Camry Hybrid has a 30 percent smaller trunk than the conventional Camry, and the Civic has a 33 percent smaller trunk.
