My dad reminded me of another piece of free software that I use a lot. I think they changed the name to ccleaner but you get the idea.... This gets rid of all the temporary stuff on a computer that has been permanent. His remarks follow:

It "unclutters", is a good tool for checking startup programs, and I have
not found any unwanted side effects. It also works on registry
